if i may give my 2cents: I think Goonswarm failed for the very reason it attracts so many members. Its structure is designed for introducing new pilots to PvP & 0.0 in a friendly & supportive mannor. Its not geared to taking, holding & policing conquerable space.
Consequently what makes it ideal for life in Syndicate is why it couldnt realistically hope to hold on in Cloud Ring. Mass waves of happy go lucky T1 frigates & cruisers make for great fun when roaming the spacelanes looking for fun. But they cant do much when defending against mass waves to T2 spewing, Cap ship flying counter-attackers.
Simularly, while these suicidal tactics employed by the goons, enjoyable though they must be, are much harder to support when you cant jump straight to Empire. Syndicate can support such activities, Cloud Ring cannot. Thus I fear many Goons found that the logistics required for a war such as this was not within their reach.
I also wouldnt be surprised if BOBs intervention in retaliation for some foul mouthed Goons had some part to play in it. Defending their home systems im sure is a higher priority then attacking anothers, & BOBs entry meant the Goons would have 2 "superpowers" slowly grinding them to dust.
Finally, I fear some of the blame may lie in the Goons "leader" Remedial simply being too oppertunistic & optimistic in the ability of Goonswarm to seriously contend with an alliance like D2. Numbers may be a Goon advantage, & im sure dread aid from SMASH was a serious boost, but numbers can only do so much; & if the lag monster doesnt lend its hand, will count for very little against a T2 bristling well lead opposition.
Thus the Goons lost. I just hope this doesnt mean the end of the Goons as if theyre kicked out of Syndicate, whats there to act as a buffer between BOB & D2? Not to mention the loss of everyones favourite killboard top-up tools _______________________________________________ The above comments & views do not reflect the opinions of Cosmic Odyssey or Chorus of Dawn; just those of an enlightened member |
